SCIM Library Benefits
Once I have my account set up, what services does the library offer?
Through access to library services, you will have the ability to locate all kinds of media for your personal use.
:: Databases of electronic resources
:: Current Magazines-most of what you can purchase off-the-shelf or through subscription (like Christian History, Christianity Today, Leadership). Usually the electronic posting of the articles runs one to two months behind.
:: Current Journals-academic and special professional journals
:: Back Issues
:: Material owned by the MNU Mabee Library
:: Check out on campus
:: Have a publication mailed to you (return postage paid by borrower)
:: Help locating books or resources not owned by the MNU Mabee Library
:: Access interlibrary loans
:: Obtain printed articles not available as full text within the database by mail
:: The professional services of our library staff.
:: Struggling to find a specific article? Call a librarian!
:: Struggling to find something, but you’re not sure what? Call a librarian!
:: Struggling to use the resources you have access to? Call a librarian!
How can I find what I’m looking for?
:: Once you are in a database, the help tab will walk you through how to access materials.
:: Most of the time, you’ll be doing a topic or a title search.
:: Databases are not organized by issue of the publication, but can be searched by date.
:: In most cases, it will probably be helpful to search for FULL TEXT only. Each database has a way to set parameters around your search.
:: Don’t be afraid to explore. You can’t break the database!
Why would I want to use these services?
:: For sermon resources
:: For help facing a pastoral challenge
:: To write more effectively
:: For personal study and growth
Who can help me learn how to use the features?
:: Your first line help comes through your District Representative.
:: Your second line of help comes through Sullivan Center staff at SCIM@mnu.edu
